Find out the health benefits of oolong tea.
Oolong tea is probably one of the least known teas in western culture, and as such little research has been conducted into it’s health benefits. However, the research that has been conducted has found that oolongs really do have some excellent health benefits.
Funnily enough, oolong is one of the teas that feature a full range of antioxidants including catechins, thearubigins and theaflavins – all of the good stuff. The way that oolongs are produced around the world vary massively, meaning that many different oolongs will have different concentrations of antioxidants and therefore different health benefits.
Oolong tea helps to reduce cholesterol
It is well known that high levels of LDL (commonly known as the bad cholesterol) can increase a persons risk of suffering from strokes or hearth attacks. A 2003 study at the Institute for Health Care Science in Osaka, Japan found that the antioxidants compounds found in the the tea were able to reduce the oxidative effects of active oxygen radicals that are present in LDL. This indicates that oolongs are beneficial for reducing bad cholesterol levels.
